Best Carl Alarm Setup

I've been researching this for a while now. Everybody seems to have a different oppinion when it comes to the best car alarm. Other than LoJack (too expensive) what would you all recommend? I'm tempted to just piece together my own with some mercury switches, shock sensors, and another sensor that determines when current is going to the dome light. Then maybe connect all this to some strobes inside the car (aimed at the driver's eyes ), the underbody LEDs, and a loud ass siren. Combine this with a club, and a hidden kill switch and it might just work. Please give me oppinions... 7 cars got stolen from my appartment last weekend!!

Re: Best Carl Alarm Setup

Viper 791 XV with prox sensor and motion detector modules. Someone even looks at your funny, the alarm goes off. You can't start the car with the alarm tripped. The lcd pager gives you constant updates on what going on. The alarm has an insane amount of range, almost as much as a decent RC car. Pager has vibrate and beep modes.

I've had the alarm, with those above two mentioned modules, for over 6 months now. It's great. Plus, this little thing is pretty neat too, as an add-on:

Get a kill switch installed too...and always have the club on when the car is parked.

Like it's been said, you can't stop anyone from stealing your car, but you can make it balls out hard nevertheless. The club is yet another hinderence that could be the fine line between a theif saying, "screw this, I'll try the next one", or, "thank god no club, this'll be quick".

Re: Best Carl Alarm Setup

i also have the 791xv with proximity, anti-lift and motion. it comes with a built in turbo timer, remote start. i also used an actuator for the hatch. its the best way to go as far as decently priced security.

Re: Best Carl Alarm Setup

Holy shit, up here in northern minnesota lots of people dont even lock their cars. My security: a motion sensor by my car and a shotgun. I will probably get one of those ones that everyone else has been talking about and a club, but I will also try to have something else like a motion sensor or video camera. Anyone who fucks with my car will wish they hadn't when they are looking down my 12 guage.

Re: Best Carl Alarm Setup

Thanks for all the input. If I do get the Viper 791 XV, what sensor modules exactly would provide the most complete security? I'd really appreciate links... I'm lost when it comes to car security seeing as how I never had a need for it until moving to school. Thanks!

Re: Best Carl Alarm Setup

just the unit itself is great. you can add a tilt sensor- if someone is trying to steal your rims by jacking up the car or trying to steal the car by towing it, the alarm will go off. or prox and/or motion.

Oh yeah... Thanks for helping me find a "Carl" alarm... I really need to read stuff before I submit.
