NBA Dress Code

I don't know how many of you have heard, but the NBA is adopting a new dress code for the players. Not on the court but off. It has to be "business casual" here is their definition:

"A long- or short-sleeved dress shirt (collared or turtleneck) and/or sweater. Dress slacks, khaki pants or dress jeans. Appropriate shoes and socks, including dress shoes, dress boots, or other presentable shoes, but not including sneakers, sandals, flip-flops or work boots."

they also can not wear necklaces outside of their clothing, they can wear it inside though. the Pacers's Stephen Jackson said that it was "racist". One other player, i forget who, said that he doesn't mind the new dress code but he thought the NBA should give the players a stipend to buy new suits and clothes that adhere to the dress code, this player makes 7 million a year. give me a break.

Re: NBA Dress Code

i guess the dress code is aimed more at when they arrive at the stadium and when they are doing team press issues. it does not apply to when they are laying back at their house on the weekend. basically anything that has to do with representation of the team or the league (lets not get technical and say, "well when you see AI at the grocery store he is representing the 76ers by what he chooses to eat")

Re: NBA Dress Code

I think this is a fucking fantastic idea.

Michael Jordan, the classiest man in the history of the game NEVER wore a fuckin doo rag, 36" chain, sleeveless tee, and slippers to a press conference. These guys are getting paid millions of dollars per year by their employer... Their Employer. The NBA. I think they can stfu about racism issues, learn that a man being paid millions of dollars per year SHOULD WANT to dress with class, in appreciation for the money he makes, stop flaunting it in front of everyone like they can do what they want, and stop looking like compton thugs while representing their team, their league, the legends of their sport, in a press conference.

Stephen Jackson is a fucking idiot. He said in very similar words to this:

"They don't want us wearing chains over our shirts, which is racist because most of the ones doing it are black."

I'm not racist but if his black ass wants to accuse us of racism over a dress code that applies to Yao, Shaq, Nowitzki, and yes... even him... he can gtfo of the nba. The commissioner does not want anybody to wear these chains because it is not a classy look. It looks ghetto. It's hood rich. Stephen Jackson just stereotyped his whole race, and disgraced it. It is not aimed at black players, just because they are the ones who are typically doing it. White suburban kids all across america are wearing long chains made of sterling silver and cubic zirconia. I don't think the white commissioner is racist against them. I think Stephen Jackson should be forced to apologize publicly for his statement. What an ignorant bastard. If we say that you aren't allowed to run into the bleachers and beat up your fans, it isn't racist just because only the blacks are doing it. Grow up you rich idiots.

Yes, it pisses me off that they are complaining about this.

It's a great idea. The NBA has really been plauged with the 'ghetto-minded' individuals who for whatever reason want to keep their hood image. Stupid? OF COURSE! Although they are athletes, they are professionals and need to present themselves as such and stop talking like they have a 2nd grade education. Although I'm sure quite a few of them are probably only that smart. They need to start understanding that people don't think it's cool to hear them talk in ebonics, and are rather laughed at.

I don't see what the big deal is with dressing in business atire. And Stephen Jackson is just jumping on the Jessie Jackson bandwagon claiming the race card for everything. Those people can go to hell for all I care. You don't dress to code, get the hell outta the league and go back to selling your cocaine for your hood. These people need to grow the fuck up and smell the coffee to realize they need to quit acting like troublemakers. I really really really am a strong advocate of the NBA madating a college education. It would be beneficial to not only the league, but also help motivate those ghetto individuals that money doesn't come without hard work and smarts.

Re: NBA Dress Code

Every other job on the face of the earth has a dress code so why shouldn't the NBA? Playing the game isn't the only part of the job. Whenever they're with the team (IE practice, press conferences, etc.) they're working, so they should look at least half-way decent.

Stephen Jackson is a fucking retard if he thinks the whole thing is racist. Maybe if he looked at himself in the mirror before making that comment he'd see where the comish is coming from...he looks like an idiot.

Re: NBA Dress Code

I agree with the rule. They employ the players to play basketball, and just like every other employer, they have rules. If you can't live with them, go find another job.

Re: NBA Dress Code

I think they should have a dress code during the season maybe...but any other time they should stay out of what they wear in their personal time. ...if it doesn't involve the NBA.

That's what it is. Pre-game/Post-game wear.

Hell they get paid so much money they not only need to be fined if they miss practice, they should be suspended and not get paid. Or each practice missed, you lose 20% of your earnings.

Re: NBA Dress Code

to me, it's f*ing ridiculous. so many people that earning millions of dollars a year, telling their BOSS what to do. if i were to walk up to my boss and be like, "look vato, i'm gonna come in hurr wit a wife beater and some gangy ass lookin chain" he'd not only fire me but probably smack me stupid. besides, i don't see the whole problem with dressing up. i like looking formal and stuff like that. if people don't then they should go live on the street and live like the bum they look like. i'm glad to see that all the REAL people, non of these people who make-trillions-of-dollars-so-they-think-they-can-complain, are all in agreement.

if they can afford the nice looking cars, they can afford the nice looking clothes.

If its an NBA sponsered activity then they can impliment any dress code they want. I think its a stupid thing to do, but its their perogative. Putting a pretty package on a piece of shit doesn't change the nature of the shit.
