Borla or Magnaflow??

Hello everybody, my name is Scott and I'm new to the forum. I bought a beautiful black-on-black 2001 LS V8 recently and already added a nice set of 20" black centered/polished lip rims. On order and expected tomorrow is the KKM intake from LS Koncepts. I'm very pleased with the car after coming out of my Suburban ... it's nice to have some fun driving again . Anyway, I searched here and couldn't find any info comparing the Borla and Magnaflow exhaust. The only thread I found was one that redirected to the LLOC forums for a sound comparison ... AWESOME, but I don't have account access to that forum and they want a fee for membership. Can anyone help out here?? What are the differences between the two exhaust to justify the few hundred dollar jump? Sound bytes would be most appreciated!!! Thanks all! ... Here's some pics ...

Scott,

I have heard both the Borla and Magnaflow. They are both very nice systems. The Borla and Magnaflow are similar but the Borla has a slight "tinnier" sound. I can't really explain it but it's not very noticable. I had seen some places offer the Borla around the same price as the Magnaflow. However, it's all personal preference. I have had the Magnaflow system on my LS for over 2 years and it's has been great. I get compliments on the sound quite a bit. If I'm not mistaken the Borla comes with exhaust tips and the Magnaflow does not. The Magnaflow just has down turn tips.

I wouldn't labor too much on one or the other. They are both good systems but price may be your final determination.

Re: Borla or Magnaflow??

Like Ken said, by the time you add tips to the maggies, the price difference is pretty small. Performance is the same. Sound is similar. I've heard them both as well and it's difficult to tell the difference unless you here them side-by-side.

Borla uses T-304 stainless, but I believe Magnaflow uses T-410. 410 can develop surface rust, but will outlast your car by several generations. 304 will not corrode.

I don't generally put mirrors under my car, so 410 is fine by me and costs less.

Thanks for the quick replies. I would like to add my own tips anyway; twin ovals ... similar to those of the 2006 Mercedes AMG S65 (shown below) for example. Would have to hack off the welded tips and the new ones could easily be clamped on, if not welded. Cutting the bumper is not a problem ... in fact I'm looking forward to it.

Re: Borla or Magnaflow??

Magnaflow sells a t-304 twin oval slash cut tip. I've got them on my wife's car. They were about $100 each, IIRC. Nice looking and always sparkling.

Installed it tonight ... very simple install. Quite a difference compared to the OEM box; obviously less restrictive. Thanks LSK!! I denote a very slight change in sound when revving; almost to the point of no change at all (sound-wise). However, with the addition of the Magnaflow exhaust that sound will change, . Seat-of-the-pants dyno tells me that the throttle is more responsive. Why KKM even supplies instructions, I'll never know ... if you can't figure this install out, you might as well be riding a bicycle, ! Won't see the exhaust until sometime late next week ... I'll keep you posted!

I wanted to supply a link to my previous car just so you know what I've been known to do , see it here ! I sold partnership of my old speed shop, Speed Injected a few years ago, but we built this car there. I'm almost sorry I sold her, but time dictates priorities and I needed to move on to something more stable; besides, the wifey kept asking where all the money goes and my son needs food ... ! I've been known to go through cars like a fish swims through water. BTW, this car layed down 502whp and 495ftlbs torque on the dyno at 28lbs boost on the KA24 motor. If you don't believe it, call the shop .
