83 S-10 2.8 several issues..

hello, my first post here.
I have an 83 s-10 with the 2.8motor and auto trans with overdrive.

Several problems.

1) the choke light on the dash in the vertical cluster column stays on most of the time when i am driving. The truck is hard to keep running in the morning and when its cool. Have to rev it up.,.and even after that, it takes a while before its ready to move. The light stays on and sometimes goes off when i accelerate.

2) The truck surges at low speeds when I am driving. I have changed the fuel filter in the carb and it was dirty. The truck is still surging or lunging and lower speeds. Could it be there is a filter in the tank or does it seem like maybe the throttle position solenoid might be out of wack..? The idle does vary and sometimes it tries to kill.

3) The transmission is roiugh when it goes into third gear.Kind of a vibration, whaty could it be? when i hit about 35 it starts vibrating and continues until i get into overdrive.

Any help appreciated.

need a new choke, or make sure the wiring is connected.
are you the only owner or have you gotten it used? sounds like carb needs rebuilt, check fuel pressure, tune up and clean or replace the egr valve.
