Re: need drag advice

If your car is an automatic; hold the brake and rev to somewhere around 2000rpms, and then let go of the brake. You shouldn't worry about the RPM for each gear, just put the pedal to the floor and the transmission will do the work for you. After that, just play with different RPMs to launch at until you find the best one.

Re: need drag advice

I'd guess somewhere between 6600 and 6800 RPMs. You can rev it higher, but everywhere I have read says that the engine reaches max hp at 6600rpms (so what would be the point of reving it too much higher). I'm not sure what you mean about the windows and sunroof. You should keep them closed if that's what you mean. The track I've been to made you close them, in case debris flies at the window so it doesn't hit you while you're driving. And by closing them you'll get less drag. If you don't mind removing your spare tire for the day, you should do it. Removing the spare will free up a little bit of weight (won't really do much though).

Re: need drag advice

I don't know about a d15b, but with my friend's Z6 I seem to have the best launches at about 4000-4500 rpm feathering the clutch out.

Optimal shift point is where your car starts to stop making power, but will keep you in your powerband in the next gear.

With the redline at 7200 and VTEC engagement at about 5000, I recomend shifting at the 7000 - 7200 mark. Doing so will put you right at the beginning of VTEC engagement in every gear so you'll stay in VTEC and in the optimal power band the whole time.

I'll make this simple... The turbonator is bullshit. For optimal perforance, you want the intake path should be as smooth as possible. Do you think that swirling air in the intke tube will still be swirling after the throttle body, manifold, and valves? Nope. Popular Mechanics tested the turbonator to put the myths to rest and on a Ford F-150 and it decreased peak horsepower by more than 10% and made no change in gas milage. (If anyone wants to see the article or testing procedures, PM me)

shifting at 4000 to 5000 will not keep you in your power band. Your power band is probably somewhere between 5500 to about 7000 rpm. At 5k rpm you're not even in your powerband yet.
