Best Pump gas turbo
My EVO III GT has a bad seal, and I was going to upgrade it soon anyways, so time for a boost (haha...lame...). I am looking for a great turbo that is good on pump gas between 14-20psi, as I am stuck on crappy california 91 octane gas. I have heard good things about PTE 50, 57 and 60 trims, as well as the 20g. If you know of any turbos, or know something about the turbos forementioned, please let me know. Looking to keep it below a 60 trim which is almost too beastly anyways.

Re: Best Pump gas turbo
The 50 trim is supposed to be the "pump gas king".
But I can't say for sure, as I don't own one. Not yet at least

Re: Best Pump gas turbo
14-20psi isn't enough boost for a 60 trim.
www.thespeedfactor.com has their PTE 50 trims for $725 or the Ball Berrings for $875!!! I've heard mixed reviews on the AGP RS series turbos. Their the cheapest out their. Turbonetics compressor matched to a bullseye hotside. But for $699 & a 1 year warrenty how can you say no!

Re: Best Pump gas turbo
The BB 50 trim is so damn cheap...its hard to resist...whats the deal???? Also, I noted that it is a SC or sport compact, but most of the PTE turbos I see for dsm are SCM sport compact mitsubishi, designed specifically for our cars....any differences? How would the install go versus the standard SCM 50 (non BB) trim which slowboy sells for a whopping $90 more....something seems a littly funky..

Re: Best Pump gas turbo
They are new. wether or not the price increases, who knows. I hope it dosn't. SC & SCM are exactly the same other then the fact one has ball bearing and the other does not. Both are oil cooled. So you will need a N/A 4g63 waterpipe and tap the filter housing for a oil feed line & mabey a oil cooler. Thats it.
Slowboy Racing is like every other outfit. They take diffrent compressor housing, inducers, center sections and exducers, peice together what works well with our cars and sells them as their own. Forced performance does the same thing, as does AGP.

At how many miles did the EVO GT start giving you problems? I'm on about 2000+ miles with mine and she still pulls like the first day. They come with a 1 year warranty...Why not just send it in and have them replace the seal?

I was looking to upgrade anyways....I probably have 2.5k miles on the damn thing...some last, some don't. I will probably send it in to be rebuilt and then sell it for dirt...
I intend to get the oil lines, and have a upgraded air type oil cooler. Any shops sell a n/a 4g water line I could use??

Re: Best Pump gas turbo
For someone looking for good pump gas power (depends on many factors, turbo plays a small part) without going too big, I still like the TDO6H 20G option, espcially with a 3" compressor cover. This is the first turbo I ran 11s on, and ran it at 25 psi daily for 47 lbs/min airflow (and 12.0s) on pump gas. No price advantage over 50 trims, but its not a cobbled together hybrid and flow is within 2 lbs/min, and it's a bit different from what everyone else runs. Getting that 25 psi at 3700 rpm is a treat as well.

Re: Best Pump gas turbo
only problem I have with the 20g is that its not cheap....899 for tdo5 +100 for a big wheel and then some for 3" inlet....whereas a bb 50 trim is like $850 Also I am going to need to add h2o injection to be able to run 23+psi on 91 crap gas....
Anyone know of a great write up on how to install a garrett hybrid on a 2g?

Re: Best Pump gas turbo
Hmm, I don't. But its not much different. The oil drain and feed lines are different, but the water lines bolt up the same. This is assuming its a bybrid with a garret center. If its a 6H 50 trim (like the M50 or the FP green) it will bolt up like a stock 20g. The TDO6 center sections sometimes (or maybe always) use a M12x1.5 banjo bolt rather than the more typical M12x1.25 on the oil feed. But you get the idea.
I used to run 25 psi easily enough on 92-93, I find it hard to believe that a drop in octane by one or two points will require water injection at 23 psi. Solid intercooling is probably the main contributor here, I always ran a large front mount (victory performance street kit and then the SBR unit). Not sure what you have or what your plans are in that department. Spot on tuning is also a big contributor of course, and by that I typically mean a DSMlink setup with half way decent settings, or an AFC type setup with ignition compensation of some sort. But back on topic, the 50 trim variety of turbos will work fine.

Re: Best Pump gas turbo
Yes, it would be, since it is only good for airflow in the mid 30s lbs/min.

I'm running in the 33 lbs/min range. Is there anyway I will know when I start outflowing the pump? I checked your website about 2 weeks ago looking for your injector/FP spreadsheet and couldn't find it. Is it still there? Thanks!

Re: Best Pump gas turbo
I took it down, too many people passing it off as thier own work. It's unfortunate.
The best ways to know that the pump is running out of steam are to watch fuel pressure, compare WBO2 data to DSMlink calculated data, or just watch WBO2 for leaning out on the top end.

It's ashame that a couple of boneheads ruin it for the rest of us. Could you email me a copy if I promise to never duplicate, reverse-engineer, or share the file with anyone. Anyway, don't have a FP gauge, WBO2 or DSMLink, so I guess I either need to invest in one or more of them, or keep the boost right where it is. Thanks!
