Question Can't tell the differance between reality and fake memory? Weird..

So it's 3am last night and I'm listening to my radio through my pillow (i.e. my radio was under my pillow) and I was flicking through stations, both FM and AM, then all of a sudden I get this weird memory while I was in the AM of myself at a younger age at my grandparents place late one night doing the same thing, but to a fixed radio (bed radio).

The thing is, I can't remember actually doing it, but I remember it... does that make any sense?

Another way to put it... I can't tell if my memory is real, or I am making it up? How weird is that shit?

Does anyone ever get these?

You've smoked too much catnip.

Or you have lived a previous life

Happens to me all the time. It does make you question things, but that's half the fun.

Maybe you dreamt it.

I always wonder after a dream, if the memories i had in the dream were real (rather, I'd "remembered" them in a previous dream) or if they'd just been created in that dream with previous dream memories thrown in.

Oh no I've gone crosseyed.

Re: Can't tell the differance between reality and fake memory? Weird..

lmao..

I do that a lot. You can makeup memories guaranteed. It happens to me the most when I meet new people. Once I familiarize their face, I begin to think I've known somebody identical to them before. But it happens all the time, so I know that isnt the case.

This is funny because I saw a program about memories today on the science channel. If you were told that you got lost in a mall when you were a kid, and it was a difficult time for you and you were scared as shit, you may not remember that right away, and question it. But, if they ask you how you feel when you're lost, how scary it is.. blah blah blah.. you will create that memory with your imagination, and you will believe whole heartedly that it did in fact happen. It's crazy shit.

Hey wasnt there a post like this yesterday.

Something even worse I did was dream about doing something...then wake up maybe never doing it because I felt that I already did it. Ex. clocking in at work twice?

I have a few memories like that...

There's one where I could've sworn when I was younger (~4 or5 yrs old), my parents took me to the end of a runway at the airport to watch planes land. Not actually on the runway, but just beyond the runway, like in Waynes World. I swear I remember doing this, but my parents tell me it never happened.

-- This weekend, I took my 5 y/o nephew to do that, and he was totally indifferent to jumbo-jets screaming over him at such a low altitude... Figured he would've loved it.

I also have memories of things that I've lied about in the past. Even though I know they are fictional events, they feel like real memories...

Re: Can't tell the differance between reality and fake memory? Weird..

remember scrooged with bill murray and he was talking about the good times he had in his life, but then the ghost of christmas past reminded him that all those memories were movies he watched?

nobody remembers that.. .oh well...

but when I was a kid, and watched the little love stories, I felt like I always had romance in my life.... but it was just feelings I got from movies that helped me pretend I did. But the memories werent there, cuz if I thought about it, I remembered that yeah... I never rescued a fine girl and had her kiss me in front of the whole school while they all applauded me and carried me through the halls as a hero. shit like that.
