lighter flywheel

how much does it really help with a lite weight flywheel . how much weight do you drop? i understand the physics behind it i just want to hear some comments.

it really depends on how much lighter you want to go...stock is around 20 lbs or so...not really sure but I know if you want it for daily driving stick to around 12 lbs....anything lower than that will suck for daily driving...

Well on my b16 the stock is heavy as hell (you literally need 2 hands to hold it up) it weighs at least 20-25 pounds. The exedy lightweight flywheel I put in is much lighter less than 1/2 of stock. The acceleration is ridiculous. The benefits I've noticed are quicker and higher revs. One thing I was kind of dissapointed though is that the advertised weight on it was rotational weight (9.5lbs) not actual (some how it's different, it definatly didn't feel like 10 lbs but I never weighed it to find out). Also if you do get a lighter flywheel, get a chromoly (exedy, ACT), I've heard nothing but horror stories with aluminum flywheels after lots of hard driving. (my friend had a d16y8 with a fidanza fywheel and the teeth started to seperate from the wheel or were falling off, but he raced either on the street or on the track every chance he got). Basically it will give your car a much sportier feeling when your driving around, just be careful about tire slippage if you don't have an LSD.

please dont say anything about something you dont have any experience with. i have a 9lbs exedy flywheel on my ls motor and i love it. i wish i could go lighter. took me about 5 mintues to get use to it from my stock d15 clutch. motor revs really fast.

most people that have a lighten flywheel say they wish they could go lighter. those that never drove a car with one or who dont own one themselves say you should go with a 12lbs street flywheel.

had my 8 pounder on. i hated it. especially in traffic. went back to stock and never looked back. maybe i should of went 12lbs, but, i am satisfied with the stock flywheel. keep in mind, i am boosted.

my b16 had a exedy 9.5 flywheel and a exedy stage1 clutch, and I've never driven a car that felt nicer than that. No hard clutch engagment, no stalling out, no anything. I loved it. I'll go lighter next time.

And yes people that never had a lighten flywheel and say they suck, never drove one.

I have an ACT 11.9lb. aluminum flywheel and stage 1 exedy clutch on my d16a6. With lightweight pulleys it revs smooth and quick. It doesn't take long to get used to. Driving in traffic is not bad except when it's really hot and my electronics are being a bitch but that has nothing to do with the flywheel...

Best set up ever! It's great I have no complaints so far, much like you no problems @ all, even during break in phase.

i havent had any experience yet. but i find this all quite intesting. ive heard of the aluminum ones blowing apart in the tranny. this is quite scary but i think eveyrone else is right chromaly oens are the way to go. also the lightest flywheel ive seen is a evolution chromaly flywheel it weights i think 7.4 lbs its on passwordjdm.com

If your going turbo any time in the future I wouldn't go lighter.

i just got an ACT 11.5lb flywheel for a 91SI to put on my DOHC ZC but havent put it on yet, will go on my spare ZC that i intend to rebuild with a stock 91 si clutch kit on a 90 si tranny. Still gotta work out my internals though. 91 si will fit on a ZC right? i was told it would.

One of the best mods I've done was an ACT Prolite flywheel. People who complain that revs drop too quickly between shifts don't know how to drive a stick. They must be "granny shifting" or something LOL. Throttle response is a lot better with it.
