looking for a little help with the 22re

Howdy everybody, this is my first post. I wish I was contributing some information rather than asking but here goes...

I've got a 22re in my pickup that was rebuilt about 20,000 miles ago. It's had regular oil changes, almost too regular at about 2000 mile intervals. The engine fires up good, runs smooth and sounds pretty good overall. The question I have is, when I turn the engine off I can hear a knocking sound coming from the engine. Its not pinging, I've checked that out, and I'm pretty positive its not valve lash, I checked that as well. The truck has full fluid levels. The knock doesn't happen when running (as far as I can tell), nor does it happen when I start it up, cold, or hot... just when shut off. I've tried turning it off with the clutched pedal pressed in with the same results. Do you all have any ideas or suggestions? Thank you very much in advance!

-Ben

Sounds like it may be dieseling, running on. Does it die immediately or kindof stumble and then die? That is a run on condition. If that is the problem, your timing may be too far advanced, or your idle is too high.

Thank you for the reply. The engine isn't dieseling, it dies right away and the timing is set at 12 degrees of advance. The engine idles at about 750 or 800 rpm as well.

12 ?!

wow usually they are set to around 5

check you label glued to under hood for timing requirement

if its realyl set to 12 then it almost would have to be pinging

hmm

good luck
