No it is not. Sounds like your thermostat is stuck open, better the stuck closed! I would recomend a reverse poweflush to make sure the coolant is fresh and replacing the thermostat with a 195 degree one. Also replace the rad cap if it is stock ACDELCO with a Stant rad cap, the ac delco ones are known for having there issues and letting air in which will cause rust. Your temp should sit just about 2 clicks to the left of 210. Good luck

please guys if I missed anything help him out!

Re: engine temp

Your temp guage should be around the 200-210 mark. Your truck seems to be running too cool (not good). When was the last time you put a new thermostat in the truck. If it's been a while, you really should flush out your cooling system and install a new 195 degree thermoatat with some fresh anti-freeze.

Re: engine temp

Make sure you get a 192-195 stat for Michigan.

don't get a 180 or a 160, they are too cold for your location.

Re: engine temp

I'm not trying to interupt on anybody's thread but I have recently had the same problem. I replaced the rad cap about a month ago. Yesterday i did a complete reverse flush and filled with a fresh 50/50 mix of antifreeze and replaced the stat with a 195.

My problem is, it is still running exactly between the 100 and 210 mark. I seen something in the auto part store that you pore in your rad and it is spose to make it heat up easier or something. Does anyone know anything about this?

Coolant temperature sender is probably defective.

If you can get a live scanner, hook it up and look at the sesnor information from the ECM vs your gauge. They are actually 2 different sensors. If the one from the ECM is reading normal, and the gauge isn't you know that you have to replace the sensor. If both are in line somewhere, you may still have a prob with the thermostat or even thehousing itself.

I'm having the same problem. if i let it sit someplace where it can't get much cool air it goes up to around 210 but when I start driving it, it drops back to around 160. I flushed it and installed a new 195 stat a week ago and then had it checked to see if the sending unit was bad and it wasn't. I'm at a loss.

Must be a fairly common problem, here is mine http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbul...d.php?t=471171

Temp reading with scan tool 198 F cannot get dash gauge to read proper even with new sending unit, yes I verified I relaced the dash unit and not the ecm sensor. I guess it may be in the wiring or the actual gauge in the dash, but I do not know how to trouble shoot further.

Re: engine temp

my temp gauge is doing the same thing. It stays about one mark to the right of the midpoint. I will try changing the thermostat to see if that helps. Also, what do you guys mean by reverse flush? Can you do this yourself or do you need to take it to a shop? One last question should I get a 195 thermostat. I live in CA and the temperature only drops to about 30F degrees in my area. Thanks

This almost sounds like a fan clutch not working.

Sometimes the ECM Coolent temp sensor might need to be cleaned and reinstalled. Sometimes they will accumulate deposits that make then less accurate.

Re: engine temp

What about the reverse flush. How is that done. One other thing I forgot is what does the stock acdelco radiator cap look like. My cap does not have any brand on it so I am not sure if it is acdelco or another brand. Thanks
