Bad Vibrations

I finally finished my trunk mounted audio setup in my spyder. I have an 800 watt Orion 250r amp and a 12" Orion HCCA 12d sub in a custom made enclosure. So, I put it in the trunk and hooked everything up. I wasn't expecting it to sound too good because it is a convertible. The system knocks but the trunk vibrates like hell. It sounds like some kind of ghetto system. When I am in my driveway with the trunk opened up I can turn the volume to like 10 and all of the kinda high beats vibrate the trunk really bad. The lows sound pretty good but thats about it. When I close the trunk it is 3 times as bad and irritates the hell out of me. I turned it up today and opened the trunk and tried to find out if any of the interior panels were making the noise but i dont htink they are.
I don't really know what to do about the problem. I was thinking about Dynamatting the whole trunk, especially the trunk lid. But what material should I go with and how would I do it? Would I just take out all of the panels in the trunk and apply the mat to the metal or what?

Thanks for the help.....and I may post some pictures if anyone cares.

Re: Bad Vibrations

Use the basic dynomat stuff. Works like a charm. Yeah, take off the panels and add a layer or 2 to the whole thing. Pretty easy.

If you wanted to be cheap, you could always just go out and buy a bunch of industrial carpet and spray adhesive and cover your truck with that shit. Not quite as effective as dynamat, but helllllluva lot cheaper. Take your time and make it look nice, you won't want to stare at a sloppy job.

Re: Bad Vibrations

don't know if the spyder is made the same way. but suggestion if the trunk side panels are made the same way, there are air vents in them which have flaps on the back of them, block off or remove flaps. Only one of the things that are vibrating, but a start.

Re: Bad Vibrations

No, there aren't any air vents back there. And I dont think I want to be cheap and use carpet . So I guess when ever I get around to it I will just order up a bunch of dynamat and put a couple layers throughout the trunk.

Re: Bad Vibrations

I used some thin rubber shims on the trunk lid where it was vibrating... you know the little gaps inbetween the outer piece and the frame.... not sure how to describe it....look at the underside of your trunk lid and you should see what I mean...but anyways.. it worked like a charm. Still had some rattle but not near as bad as before.
Ultimate cure... Dynamat
