Building a motor

Over the summer im going to be taking a high performance engine building class to go along with my auto tech program and i plan on building a 6 bolt. My question is should i use all of the gen 1 parts, ie, head throttle body manifolds and such or should i utilize some of the parts on my 7 bolt? Also i plan on stroking and possible boring the block, is it better to do one or the other or both? I also plan on blueprinting and balancing the whole rotating assemble. My goal is to make a motor that is basically bullet proof and capable of reving safely to 9 or 10k and be able to withstand whatever mods that I want at it.

Re: Building a motor

The parts are up to you. Depends on how much money your going to spend. 2g pistons/1g rods with a 4gcs crank is a great 6bolt budget stroker kit. Speeking of 100mm crankshafts. You can't rev that high on a stroker motor. 8500 MAX.

Use all 1g valvetrain parts. unless you have somone who can port and polish your 2g head for free.

Re: Building a motor

I'm looking more toward going with a forged stroker kit probably, havent decided yet, but as far as a port job thats all going to be covered in my class, everything from boring and stroking to porting and vavle jobs, basically everything involved in building a high performance motor

Are you going to UTI? I have a friend down in Phoenix going to UTI. Yeah, I agree with scottsee, 9-10k on a stroker isnt safe, but good luck building your stuff. I would stroke and bore it. If I am remembering right, the 1g head flows better, the 1g exhaust manifold is less prone to cracking, and the 1g TB is bigger.

OT: 2g pistons, 1g rods, and a 4gcs crank? Wow, sounds like I have a new plan . About how much more displacement would you get from that? What engine was the 4gcs crank from?

Re: Building a motor

I actually live in austin mn and im going to riverland in albert lea mn for auto tech. same program just alot closer and cheaper. How much can you safely bore the 4g63? Ive heard people going as far as .040 over, and lets say you do that with the 2.4 crank, how much displacement would you be looking at?

Re: Building a motor

Hell yeah, MN represent . I'm up north. I'd probably go .020 over, but thats just me. I think with the 2.4 crank, 1g pistons, and stroker pistons (not sure on the pistons) you end up with a 2.3.

Re: Building a motor

Also the 1G exhaust mani has less flow than the 2G so i would use that along with your 2G TB elbow and 2G mas

Re: Building a motor

wait... I thought the 2g manifold was less prone to cracking... isn't that the reason why so many people with 1g's buy 2g manifolds and port them? Hey good luck building the engine!

2g exhaust manifold has larger exhaust runners making it flow better. It also is less prone to crackin. The 4gcs is an 89-92 Hyundai Sonnat 2.4l engine. It is a bigger stronger 6bolt 4g64.

Limit on the 4g63 is .08 over. Displacement = pi/4 x bore(2) x stroke x # of cylinders.

If you buy a 16 N/A TB that has a 64mm inlet, you can use a cylicone elbow to connect it to the UICP, eliminating the need for a restrictive 2g elbow. 2g mass will be good for upto 44lb/min. After that the become unrelable.

Re: Building a motor

2g mas does 50 lbs/min, don't sell it short!
