94 celica start up hesistation!!!

hello people- i have a 94 toyota celica gt with a 2.2L engine, when starting up from cold- the engine lags or hesistates for a few second before starting up. also, i have to step on the gas peddle to pump some fuel with it.. do any of you know what's wrong? i know this rarely happens, and when it happens.. not many people would know much about it... does anyone know what i can do to make my car start up normally?? THANKS ALOT IN ADVANCE...

Mine has a rough, irradic idle when its cold. I would check all the ignition basics plugs, wires, cap & rotor button. Also u may have a small leak in your intake tube which will cause the same thing, but if thats it, it should hesitate whether it's hot or cold. Also try and change your fuel filter if u have'nt already. Thats the one thing I haven't done and I know it really needs a new one. Good luck.
