I have a 2002 Dodge neon and it all of a sudden won't shift gears. It stays in 2nd and my check engine light came on. I checked the diagnostic codes and all that came up was 700 which is the transmission computer detecting a problem. I took it to have it checked by a mechanic and he said that the only code he gets is for a shift solenoid B. Does anyone know how much this will approximately cost and where on the tranny it is located? Thanks.

Re: 2002 Neon won't shift out of 2nd
Take it to a real trans shop that works on these. You are in Limp Home mode (2nd gear only). These transmissions are a fully computer controlled units. About 1/2 of the transmissions get the $1500 rebuild package and then still don't work (or fail again within a short time) because a computer problem caused the trans to fail and fixing the trans doesn't solve the computer problem.

Re: 2002 Neon won't shift out of 2nd
I have decided it is in my best interest to shop for a new vehicle. I don't want to spend lots of money and then have it go again due to the computer. Thanks alot.

Took my 02 to Dodge today and the output speed sensor is bad. Check those first they are about 25.00 and are relatively simple to change.
