my friend wants to go dow to local track and race a 1/4. i wanna know who would win. we're agreeing that we're equal drivers cuz we grew up 2geth and kno we can both drive very well. ive got an 02 gti 337 with intake catback and a chip. hes got a 98 stang gt with headers back exhaust an intake a chip and 4.10 gears. who would win?

that would be a good race, and even though im a big fan of the gti, i think the mustang would win. (but i would want to see the gti to kick some mustang tail.) Whats your HP on the GTI?

i'd give it to the stang, not much heavier, and easily more HP and torque... and no turbo lag to worry about... though i dont know how bad that is with the gti's...

why do you it say it like that, like it wouldnt even be close?? comon' the 98 stock only has 215hp and 255lbft. according to c&d a 98stang gt can do 0-60 in 6.3 and a 1/4 in 15.5 and c&d says that an 02 gti can go 0-60 in 6.5 and 1/4 in 15.1. my car weighs about 2850 , his 3200. we both have relatively the same mods. i think it'll at least be close.

uh... a 1998 mustang gt is more powerful then that... it's got 225hp and 286lb-ft torque...

where'd you get your figures?

98 stang blows. the sn95's in general blow. it doesnt matter if it has 10 more hp becasue it runs mid 15's w/a V8. i remember a 96 stang gt only being able to do a 6.8 0-60 and a mid 15 1/4mi.. the only way he can win is if you wheelspin like crazy and the fact that his 4.10 gears are better suited to a 1/4 mi track.

uh... he would have 10hp more, if the mustang didnt have any mods... with mods, probably like 50hp more...

besides, i dunno why you think one '96 stang that you saw represents the entirety of all mustang gt's... it could have easily been a bad driver.

well looks like race may be postponed after all ...it was supposed to be this fri but my car goes into dealership thurs because i am experiencing extreme power loss. i have a boost gauge and when the turbo starts to spool up (3psi or more) my car makes an incredibly high pitch clicking well screaming noise. the higher the boost the worse it is. i bought the car w 26k miles so im thinkin the dealership may not have checked the coolant levels and i may have burned a bearing up, any other thoughts?

What a load of crap! The Vw cant even be compared to the mustang. The numbers that you gave us there are far exajerated. You people are all crazy. I can smoke any
4 or 6 cylinder turbo in my trans am (190hp, 300 ft lb) and beat it by 6 or 7 lenghts. Keep in mind that there are different numbers for hp (which by the way doesnt even matter here) The one that themotor puts out and teh other that actually gets to the wheels.
If you post it in the mustang forum they are gonna laugh their asses off risers!
