93 rodeo starter

hi, i have had some trouble starting my car the past couple days. when it goes to turn over it just makes a loud clicking noise, then starts on the twentieth or so try. i believe it is the starter and would love a second opinion. also is the starter an easy fix and does anyone know about how much they go for? thank you to anyone who can help.

Re: 93 rodeo starter

Just dropped a new one in my '97 LS for $130 something from NAPA, I think... It was easy. Two mounting bolts and a couple of plugs. I had to recover 2 mounting dowels from the original starter/solenoid bracket. I don't know how different it will be on your rig...

Re: 93 rodeo starter

sounds like starter to me, see if you can have somebody tap out it with like a rubber mallet when you are trying to start it, often times it will turn over when hit, that can give you a better idea if that is it. If that works, then its definately the started. Also just make sure all of you power and ground cables are good and tight, and free of corrosion and such. Good luck!

Is it a rapid series of clicks or just one click? One click with it starting sometimes means the solonoid inside the starter has gone bad. A rapid series of clicks usually means low battery voltage.

Re: 93 rodeo starter

Do you have a 4x4? If so, be prepared to have some fun. I have a 93 4x4 and it took about 6 hours to replace the starter. The starter isn't that bad to get at and unbolt. But once unbolted, I couldn't get it out. I ended up dismantling the starter to get it out. Then had to dismantle the new starter to get it in and put it back together up by the engine.
