Starting Problems
Well im back to say my car has starting problems again. I replaced the battery, coil, new rotor and distributor but it still took forever wiggling the key for the car to finally start miraculously. It won't start at all and then it will start like nothing happened. Once it started it was fine, but a few days ago it turned off when i was going form a red light and i started it and it started right away but when i let go of the key it turned off.
So i did it again and it started on the first try but when i let go of the key it turned off. So i'm 99% sure its my ignition switch. Now I was quoted $403.00 for the whole igntion part of my car but i cant afford it and besides i dont need everything but the electronic wire harness only. So I found a guy who gave me a wire harness from a newer automatic civic. My question is will it work in my standard integra or do i need to find a late model integra and get one from their. Thanks alot for your input. |

when the car is not starting, you need to check for power, fuel, and spark. start from there. it leads to everything else. before you go about thinking and changing the ignition, test the ignition switches wiring before just throwing money at it again.
what wiring harness are you talking about? there are a few of em.

well, if it were me, id test the wiring on the ignition before deciding to buy a whole new ignition. the ignition switch side (where all the wires come out of) can be replaced individually. you can check it by testing the continuity in the different ignition positions from two different junction plugs near by it, it will also help you pinpoint if the problem lies outside of the ignition switch mechanically and electrically (not sure if all integra generations have two junction plugs, a helms would be handy right about now, buy a helms or find a downloadable format on honda-tech.com). if the wiring and contiuty checks fine, then, id replace the whole ignition switch. or you can just say fuck it, and buy a whole new ignition switch anyways. also, because the wire harness from the ignition switches wire harness, particularly the junction plugs are difffernt from integras to civics, im not sure if the newer ones will fit (i doubt they will, but, if its free, doesnt hurt to try.
