1995 Jimmy

I am desperately hoping someone can help us. Our 1995 Jimmy wil start sometimes and other times will flood itself and not start. We changed fuel filter and seemed to help but now back to same old things. Can't trust it leaves us stranded sometimes. Any help will be good.,

check the upper manifold for washing. this is caused buy fuel leaking from the CPI/fuel regulator or the fuel lines/"nut kit". this could be ur problem. pull the vortech cover off the manifold and remove the valve on top of the manifold. look down inside and look for washing. If u find washing(clean areas where as the entire thing should be dirty), the cpi and/or nut kit is probably to blame.

also check ur O2 sensors. if these are bad, they may tell the ECM to flood the engine.

is ur check engine light on by any chance?

Re: 1995 Jimmy

yep, search this forum and the Chevy Blazer forum (same engine) for:

washing
nut kit
cpi

and you will see ... very common problem for 95s

if the check engine light is on, use a scanner (can be rented at auto zone)to read the codes. The O2 sensors are in the exhaust pipe, one before and after the cat. also the cpi injectors last about 5-7 years. when u had the cpi replaced, did u also replace the nut kit. If not, that can also leak (as i found out, both my cpi and nut kit were bad). it had no power going up hills with those two leaking. if u find these to be the problem, replace them imediately and change the oil, as gas in the oil will cause internal damage to the engine. the O2 sensors will be about 40 bucks each if u find them to be bad.

Re: 1995 Jimmy

Zl1power69 is right, also not just because you replaced it a couple of years ago doesn't mean it didn't go bad again, while they should easily last 100k I've seen plenty of them blow out in less than a year (mine did ).... Ultimately it's best to pull the upper plenum and check for washing. As ZL1 said though it could also be the nut kit. As a rule of thumb you should replace the nut kit when you replace the CPI.

pulling the upper plenum takes about 5-10 minutes with a 10mm socket. as rlith said, just because it was replaced a couple years back does not mean it did not go bad. i know someone else with a 95 blazer with about 150,000 on it and they have never replaced the cpi. i know of another person with a 95 jimmy with 77,000 miles that has had 2 cpi replacements. as for my truck, the cpi was bad and the nut kit had a hole in it. again if these are bad get them replaced right away. the cpi unit is about $295 and the nut kit is $55. u will need a new upper intake gasket which is about $11.50. i posted all this info on this thread below.

Well we have to eliminate things... As said the CPI and/or nut kit could be bad... Have you also done a fuel pressure test?

Did you do the pressure test? Did you pull the upper plenum to check for washing?
