6.5 deisel burning oil

My 1997 6.5 deisel burns 1.5 q every 5k. Some people tell me this is OK for having 120,000 miles on it. One dealer tells me that it is my valve seals and another is telling me it's my rings and pistons. My compression is 125 all the way around. Is this something I should worry about or should I just keep driving and checking the oil. I do plan on keeping the truck for a little while yet.

Thanks for any info.

it's probably your valve seals. if you press the gas after you have stopped and blue smoke blows out, it is probably the valve seals. I just had my valve seals replaced after 126,000 miles.

First off, compression on a 6.5 should be around 375psi or higher.

There is no specification on oil consumption for the 6.5, but usually 1 qt. per 2000 miles is acceptable
