1990 suburban fuel problems

1990 suburban 350 fuel pump went out. changed fuel pump and got no fuel. ran direct electric line to pump and im getting fuel now, but still will not start. prime carb and it acts like it wants to start but still pump will not supply gas.

You dont have a carb on that do you? Check your fuel pressure regulator, fuel filter, and make sure your electrical connector for the pump is ok. Sometimes the wires will get eatin away.

I had the exact same problem with my Suburban, it would run (idle), when I hooked the fuel pump directly to electricity, but not when I started driving - this is because your fuel is controlled by the computer not a carb. I had to take mine to an auto electrician, my wires near my ECM which is located in your glove box were arcking, and blowing my ECMB fuse, (not ECM fuse). they cleaned it all up, never had a problem since. Be careful connecting power to your fuel pump, it can fry your gas guage. Good luck.
