'93 Tbird wont start.

Lately this new problem has now come about on my '93 V6 TBird.
Lately when I put the key in the ignition of the car all the console lights and stereo go on but, the car wont start. After a while of banging the metal part where the key goes in the car will start. It hardly ever did it before but, now it does it like every day or every other day.
Some times I'll bang the metal part once or twice and it'll go on but, sometimes in sitting there banging it for like 5min then it starts.
When I turn the key to try and start it there is no clicking noice, nothing.
Whats wrong with my car..................H E L P !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: '93 Tbird wont start.

Sounds more like the ignition switch itself, not the key and tumbler most people think is the switch. Something you can do though is remove the tumbler. Turn the key to the run position(might be the acc postion), there is a small hole on the under side, put a small rod up there and push the detent. Rotate the ignition switch backward and it should come out. Then you can see if the tumbler is rotating the way it should and even take a 1/4" flat tip and stick it in the hole the tumbler came out of and engage the switch manually. Look, listen, feel for something loose, broken, binding, etc. May just be a worn out switch.

Re: '93 Tbird wont start.

If beating on the column works it may just be coincidence it's the starter. If the starter relay isn't working nothing will happen. If the starter won't engage but the solenoid does, you'll hear a loud audible click. If the relay is working but not enough power to start the car the relay will click. If you have a bad ground or loose positive cable, just luck of the draw determines if and when it will start. There are many things to look at with electrical problems.

So more than likely you guess it'll be my ignition switch? I just spoke to some crook, I mean guy at Ford and he said that my car was NOT on the recall for faulty ignition switches and they'd charge me $93 bucks just to find out what was wrong with it.
man, I wanna cry...............
