Re: 5th gear out

If 5th is out, I would say you have a manual tranny right? Auto's don't have 5th gear, but I would start looking at a different truck if money isn't an option. By the way, no offense, but if money is not an option. I don't want to know, it makes me mad when mommy and daddy buy their little boy or girl a brand new truck. Again, don't take any offense to that, just IMHO.

Re: 5th gear out

my first car was an '88 Ford Tempo *YUK. I bought it for $200. It had 280,000miles. yep, 280.
That frakkin car nickel and dimed me to death. I had to work just to keep it running!
The kicker was I couldn't be on anyone else's insurance policy, so PLPD on that POS was $2100/ 6months (I was 16) needless to say, I didn't have insurance until I was 20

Another useless reply,
Jake

Re: 5th gear out

BTW Hoffman, Tranny work can get expensive. Sometimes totaling more than what the vehicle is worth.

Get out the phone book, look up 'transmission repair'. Start calling, see how much a problem like that is to fix. Ask if driving it like that will hurt anything (they will most undoubtidly say "Yes."). Then weigh your options. "Is this truck worth fixing, or should I look elsewhere?"

You're young, don't spend a lot (<$1000) on your first vehicle. You are going to be hard on whatever you buy. Get something that you can beat up and not get upset over.

...just a little friendly advice

Jake

Alright hey to be honest with you this is not a chevy i know bann me from the forums but no one goes there... its a 1991 Isuzu Rodeo 3.1L V6 5 speed manual here is the SUV

http://www.bismanonline.com/display_ad.bmo?ad=124543

I had 600 saved 4 months ago, but i had to give that to my dad for house rent. money was running short with the family so i gave it up w/e... so i finaly have 540$ and this came along i test drove it with my dad , my dad is really picky about cars it ran perfectly fine, only thing wrong is it doesnt go into 5th gear.... it gets up to around 50-55 in 4th..

guy said he called the car dealership in town about 250 to fix it... so im woundering if i would only go into 4th and go around 40mphs could this SUV make it a month or so without getting the 5th gear fixed thanks

Re: 5th gear out

It could be your 5th gear synchro going out MAYBE. I da a 5spd honda that was getting increasingly hard to shift into 3rd, and that was what was wrong with that. I did, however trade that Honda in towards the fine vehicle in my sig.
