Hey all;
I finally took everything apart to change my fuel filter. Had to take off strut bar, battery, intake, battery holder, brake resivoir, windshield wiper fluid, and some other crap. I was actaully going to fill up my tranny today, but I realized this was closer for today. Took way too long to do. I was going my the instrustions on DSMTuners.com. I had bought the filter a while back ago, and it turned out it was the wrong size. I gave em the model that was on the instructions. Bad move. Couldnt return it then. So, I had to buy another filter, and install that one then. I depressurized the system, and there was still fuel all over the place. Terrible. I then found out that the banjo bolt that goes through the top is a fuel pressure adjuster. SO, it turned out when I had first instaleld it, I totally blocked off the fuel flow, so the car would turn over, then die. After a long time, and more fuel all over the place, it works. I didn't drive it yet, so I don't know if I got the controller all the way open. Find out later. It was not easy like everyone was talking about. Here is a pic of where mine is http://www.dsm3d.com/af_pics/fuelfilter.jpg

Re: Finally Changed Fuel Filter
I took mine out about 2 months ago, I also drained all the fluid out of the rear one. I never use these things anyways.

Was the old filter really dirty when you pulled it out? I've been thinking of doing this also, but it sounds like a job for the shop. I don't really feel like hassling with it.

Re: Finally Changed Fuel Filter
I didnt really see if it was dirty. As far as I know, it hasnt been changed in a long time. It looked old too. Take it to the shop if you don't have time and dont want to smell like gas.
I took for a test drive and everything worked fine. Idle was a little high... dont know why. No leaks. I brought my home fire extinguisher with when I went. lol. Never be too safe. I want to make sure I'm getting full pressure through. Does anyone know what the stock setting is set to on the filter? There's a hole that goes through the bolt. Is it 100% open at stock? And is getting not fully open going to make a big difference? Thanks.

Re: Finally Changed Fuel Filter
i could have told you that it was a bitch. it took me forever to do it when i did mine. especially cause it's hard to unbolt the banjo fitting on the bottom without cutting the shit out of your hand. i usually just do a filter when i pull my motor (about every fuckin 2 weeks now)

Re: Finally Changed Fuel Filter
Actually, the banjo on the bottom was pretty easy. Just held the filter and unscrewed it.

Re: Finally Changed Fuel Filter
That filter is really in a shitty spot? I know when I changed mine it was really easy cause as you all know I have a 1G and the filter is right by the battery just to the right of it, but the battery is also on the left side of the engine bay. All I had to take off is the intake, battery, strut bar, and battery tray thingy. Good Job on gettting her changed finally.
