SS/SC vs. C5 Corvette

I was heading to my buddies' party yesterday morning with my g/f in the car. When we got got off the freeway and started heading West we ended up behind a silver, C5 vette with a nice, gurgly exhaust. We cruized along behind the vette dude for a mile or so, listening to him do a wot run every so often, then he'd slow back down. This behavior didn't seem too typical of the normal Haiwian shirt wearing, kaki shorts clad, ponied-tailed vette owner. So I pulled along side of him to take a look at who might be at the wheel, and apon closer inspection I saw a guy who I swear looked just like Bill Gates in a T-shirt and giant eye glasses. I said to my g/f, "Hey, check this guy out." She laughed and said he looked like a doofus, which made me laugh even more. This is the second time I've recently seen a goofy older guy driving a sport car that just doesnt look like he belongs in it. The other was an Evo MR.

Anywho, he noticed us checking out him and his ride so he dropped it down a gear at about 45 mph and opened it up. I couldnt pursue as I had a car in my lane, so I let him tear off down the road. I leisurely passed the car in front of me and caught back up to Vette dude at a light. We took off from the light normaly and this time I was ready for him with no immediate traffic in our way. I held it next to him at about 50 mph in 3rd gear.

As soon as I heard start to wind it up I jumped on it and so did he. We stayed there next to eachother for a few seconds then he started pulling ahead a bit, but not as fast as I figured he would. I rapped out 3rd gear with him slowly pulling ahead. By the time I hit the rev limiter for 3rd gear he was about half a car ahead or so. I didn't feel the need to shift into 4th to continue pursuit on him as the ahead traffic that wasn't so immediate before was right in front of us now. I hit the brakes and he kept the throttle burried, changing lanes and blazing by a mini van. He probly brought it up to 110-120 before he got off it. I wanted to get next to him to talk a bit and give him a thumbs up, but he never slowed down enough to do so, so I continued on my way to the party.

Re: SS/SC vs. C5 Corvette

C5 isn't all THAT great, lol.

We are working on a new thing for the Z06, instead of traditional engine mounts it will have a magnesium engine cradle (provided by the company I work for). This is still in the works last time I checked, but if it "works" it will be a huge deal not only for us but GM can maybe get their sales back up and bounce back from their new title of "Grabage Stock"

Re: SS/SC vs. C5 Corvette

What will be the benefit of the craddle as apposed to the stock style mounts? Are the factory mounts that weak?

Nothing is wrong with pony-tails in Vettes. That's one of the prerequisites for owning one...I don't think nerd-guy got the memo

The glasses on the other hand...common. Heh.

Re: SS/SC vs. C5 Corvette

I knew someone would say that as well...

I would, but I've maxed out the characters in my sig. Maybe I'll take some of the kills out to add any new deaths. Later tho, too lazy right now.

Re: SS/SC vs. C5 Corvette

I did mess up on one important detail now that I look think about it. It wasnt a 3rd gear run for me, it was 2nd gear. Cause there's no way I was doing 105 mph when we shut down (thats where 3rd redlines).

It was more like a 35-40 mph roll ending at around 60-65(2nd gear redline). My bad for the mistake, I blame it on my ADD.

Re: SS/SC vs. C5 Corvette

So he "slowly pulled away" from a 35-40mph roll till 60-65? That is like a second and a half race, if that.

Re: SS/SC vs. C5 Corvette

Heh, definetly not 1 1/2 seconds from 35-60. That would be insane.
