Starting problems

I have a 1995 Dakota Magnum V-8 4WD and I have an issue with starting. It used to turn over nicely, but recently, I have to turn it twice in order to get it going. The first time, it won't start for nothing but usually the second time it fires right up with no problem, usually immediately. I even let it sit for a moment after the injectors have fired off that little bit of fuel for starting thinking that I haven't let the engine have a chance to get ready for ignition. Is there a filter or something that needs to be replaced, cleaned, or checked? After I get it started, it runs fine....no problems. I really love this truck and will try anything to keep it running. Any and all info will be appreciated, thanks.

i would check a couple things. check your timing. go over your ignition sys.
cap & rotor. check wire connections. if it is a fuel problem, maybe flooding. try pressing the pedal right to the floor before you start it next time. dont pump it just pressed to the floor. thats called the (clear flood mode) pretty self explanatory. let it turn over for a couple seconds if it starts first time its probably then you have a flooding prob. if i can think of anything more specific ill let you know. if you figure it out let me know.

Question starting problems

Thanx for the info...the electrical system is working fine...up until today, it struggled to get started, but this evening, it wouldn't turn over. I thought my fuel gauge was down, so I went out and got a couple gallons from the local fuel stop, put 1 1/2 gallons into my tank and it still did not fire up. but as soon as I poured some into the throttle body, it fired right up for a few seconds, then it sat dead again. Because of this, I am assuming it is my fuel pump since everything worked when I poured the fuel directly into the engine. Also, I have heard that if there is a catalytic converter on the vehicle, running out of fuel will damage it, if this is so, will a bad fuel pump do the same thing? I do not want to replace that cat if I don't have to, and will cut it out if it is necessary...In doing so, what are the consequences of this action? Any and all thoughts and ideas on this issue are greatly appreciated.
