My Saturn stalls when I stop or slow down (this is not good as I do a lot of city driving) and is missing. It will not restart immediately (i.e. I sat through three red lights before it started back up). And when it does start, it leaves heavy gas fumes. It runs fine otherwise. My mechanics put in new plugs and plug wires. Problem still not solved. Then theythought the problem might be the fuel regulator since the fuel pump was registering over 50 psi??, so I have had two new fuel filters put in (they tell me that is where the fuel regulator is). That still did not fix the problem. My mechanics say they do not think it is the fuel pump since it is pumping more that it should. They are stumped. Is there another fuel regulator besides the one in the filter? What else affects fuel regulation, or could be causing the stalling?
Also, they get a "cam sensor" error(?) when they hook it up to the computer. Our local Saturn dealer informs us that SL2's do not have cam sensors. Last edited by J. R.; 10-18-2005 at 09:31 AM. |

Re: 1998 Saturn SL2
a clogged return line can increase fuel pressure. i do not know the specs for a fact but i think the spec is 350kpa or just a hair above 50 PSI.
is this a automatic or manual transmission?

You need to get new mechanics if there just throwin shit on your car just hoping it fixes the problem. there wasting your money dude. Get one that can diagnose the problem, then fix it once. Not just guess a million times and have hundreds of return trips to the shop because there fartin in the wind. I would say your problem is ignition related by the way...
