Tranny fluid in the coolant????

Is it possible that there is transmission fluid leaking into the coolant via the radiator? 93 v6 with brownish red colored coolant. Change and flushed the system only for it to happen again. Inside of radiator , caps, and hoses are also covered in a brownish residue. Any comments? Thanks.

Re: Tranny fluid in the coolant????

The transmission cooler goes through the bottom of the radiator. It's possible there's a rusted out section inside. How does the transmission fluid look? The leak would effect both.
You may simply have corrosion and scale in the radiator core or elsewhere from poor maintenance and old age.

Cool

Ya, it can happen. That's not the normal spot for it to happen, but it can.

Drain the transmission pan & see what it's fluid looks like.

Most likely you're just not flushing the cooling system every other year like you should & the coolant is breaking down.
The radiators don't like that. Normally they blow up after awhile.

Just don't refill it with Toyota red.

Re: Tranny fluid in the coolant????

I would be worried about coolant in the transmission.
The stock tran cooler is just a hollow tube running into the radiator and back out again.
You may be able to get away with just getting a external tran cooler, running your tran hoses to it and capping off the ports in the radiator to prevent leakage. Def get your tranny flushed soon.
