Headlights/Winter safety

I pulled up in the driveway last night and noticed that my driver side headlight was moving as in lose. Upon farther inspection I found water inside (seal beam). This morning after breakfast I went to the parts store and bought a new Cool Blue Sylvania. I had installed this model in the caparice about five years ago. I had noticed that my lighting had started to deteroiate, but could not figure out why(all lights came on normally when put into operations). Once I remove the driver's side headlight I observed that the reflective mirror material had washed away and portions of the headllamp was clear glass. My problem solved. I just checked my headlights at dark this evening, and all I could say was Wow!!!! I can see the road again. The moral of the story is, the headlights may be working but not at their maxium effectiveness. So check before winter sets in.

Re: Headlights/Winter safety

Good tip... and for those of you who have the Caprices 85 and older, it can be tough, and damn near impossible to get the 4 screws out that hold the stainless bracket on that holds the glass bulb in place. All you need ta get them right off is a little bit of heat. Just use a propane or mapp gas torch and hold the flame on each screw for 10 seconds each, and they should come right out with ease. Hold the flame there longer if necesary, but theres no need to make them glowing hot. Just an extra tip for headlight replacement.

Re: Headlights/Winter safety

I replaced my headlights with a set bosche's couple of years ago. And Pete is dead on about the 4 screws that hold them on. On my 80 they were a pain to remove. On a couple I couldn't get one screw out, so I just bent the ring out remove the light. I just recently took all the rings off of an 84 Delta 88 to powder coat, and I was able to get all 16 off no problems.
