Unhappy 84 corvette HEADLIGHT MOTOR Problem.

Does anyone know what part of the 84 corvette headlight motor makes it stop rotating? the headlight motor works both to open and close the headlight but it keeps on running......has anyone had the same problem and how was it fixed?

Re: 84 corvette HEADLIGHT MOTOR Problem.

I think it could be the gears, since they are made of plastic. Ecklers sells them, also they have metal ones, they cost a lil bit more, but they are supposed to last longer. Good luck

Re: 84 corvette HEADLIGHT MOTOR Problem.

The problem I had on my '88 is the motor would run, but the head light door wouldn't go up at all. I took the drive gear out and it looked exactly like a Ford window gear.
The plastic bushings break apart that connect the motor gear to the window (or head light) gear. The plastic inserts act as a coupler, get brittle after time and break apart. I cleaned out all the pieces, cut sections out of a 1/2" (or 7/16") bolt to replace the broken pieces and repacked it w/grease.
I've repaired countless Ford windows this way, I figured it should work on a headlight. A week later the other one started acting up, so I did the same for that one too. It's been several years ago, they work fine.
Only bad thing, they aren't easy to repair.

Good luck.
