Exclamation BMW M3 (E46) vs. NISSAN SKYLINE GT-R Vspec II (R33)

In an overall test of might...both straight line and curvaceous...which car would win?

BMW M3 (E46) or NISSAN SKYLINE GT-R Vspec II (R33)???

Reason being both are priced probably around $50K-$55K and both are badass cars...

My vote...R33 GT-R

well i think the 2002 M3's will beat the R33. cuase the R33 was considered to be the mistake of hte 3 gen's. it had the longest wheel base, and it was also the tallest one. from what i've learned from the skyline forums here, its not realy much improved over the R32.

the new M3 will beat the old R33 in every way, looks, power, handling. But if it was an R34 it would be a whole different story

Pennzoil I am not so sure. Just over the weekend there was an Autosalon here in Auckland New Zealand. A brand new M3 was slapped up on the dyno. It had a custom tuned exhaust and not sure what else.
If memory serves me right the M3 is rated at 350hp from the factory. On the dyno it threw 260hp at the wheels, which is about right.

An R32 and R33 GTR with factory boost exhausts and pods throws the same figures. The GTR would out accelerate it though cornering would be pretty close. Too close to call

Style the BMW is a BMW, and the GTR race bred.

I would take the GTR over the beemer.

Well, I personaly like the R33s, I guess that just shows the Greenpeace kinda guy I am

Any how, the race would be interesting... I'd throw my money on the R33 just for the sake of betting but as for educated guesses I have none

the M3 is a very well balanced car with a good, torquey engine. It shud just about have the R33, unless of course it rains

As for the R34, that 4 wheel drive system and the horsepower (its way over the 276hp Nissan claim), it would leave the M3 for dead

id like to see the M3 CSL race an R34, could be a whole different story

well to be honest with you the R33 is a faster straight line racer then a R34. the R33 is still rated at over 300hp . and the R34 has slightly more hp. but being that the R34 weights almost 200lbs more that extra 15 hp is not goin to cut it. the fastest i've seen a stock R34 run on best motoring is 12.9 on the 1/4 and the fastest i've seen a stock R33 run was 12.7 on the 1/4. however the R34 is superior in ever other way. and of course its my favorite skyline out of all the GT-R's.

of course the real test would be to race them on the old nurburgring nordschliefe. i think the M3 does it in just under 9 minutes, about 8 mins 50 secs. anyone know wot the skyline does it in?

In reality it is difficult to compare the two. The BMW is based on a luxury car platform, while the Skyline was based on a race car platform from the get go.

The skyline is by no means the best in the world. Anyone who suggests that is either very ignorant or just not all there. One would only have to look at the Porsche GT2, Maclearn F1, etc. Factory specc'ed they are superior full stop. I can see I am about to get flamed here but hell I own a GTR and know what it is capable in near stock trim.

Funny as about 6 years ago I nearly bought a BMW just because it is a BMW. They are bloody nice cars. I just have a serious need for speed, handling, and overall fun. Not to mention a true sports car in look and reality. When it comes to modding up the two, the GTR whether it is an R32, R33, or R34 has so much potential. Getting 500hp out of one is childs play. In fact in Japan if your GTR is not over 700hp you are not even taken seriously. There are so many RH9's in Japan it isnt even funny.
It would take quite a bit to get the BMW mill over the 500hp mark.
