I can tell you that you'll need the tranny that came w/ the 3.8. From there, everything will have to be custom fabbed. I would think the axles would be the most difficult part as you'd need to have them custom made.

Yeah my buddy back home pretty much told me the engine brackets, transmission and some wiring were about the only problems. also the 3.8 ran a little hot at first so some timing was an issue and few other small things like linkages. but i hope someone can give me some really good info on this matter. if not i go home in 25 days for leave from iraq ill ask him then.

thanks

jason

search around on www.j-body.org theres a few people that have done the swap in there cars. I would go with an LSJ swap thought, that would be awsome.

Re: 97 cavalier 2.2L swap for Buick Century 3.8L

Are u sure u wana do it?? i already tought about it...i hope u have a good knowledge-money AND time...from what ppl told me its like a big Pita...you need custom mounts, tranny from a00-05, custom flywheel, also computer needs to be reflashed and bla bla bla!! oh and think about it its a 3.8L ($$$fuel$$$) but if u REALY wana do it and u think u CAN do it...try to find a 3.8l sc, its better than the reg 3.8, and do it if ur planing on keepin ur car for a while...or its a wast of time/$MONEY$, a money that u can spend on an ecotec cavalier or at least z24 95-98 with nice mods and a turbo. I changed my mind cuz i have a 97 2.2 and swap that engine wud cost 2much and i cant make many pieces for make it fit! i dont need all that power..i dont need to get to the red light faster..a turbo will make the job..and the reg mods like exaust header etc. think aboutit cuz u can regret it...it will be UR lose then! swap a 2.4 or ecotec instead of the 3.8 on a small car like cavalier!! Oh and u dont only need the engine of the buick or bonneville or wtv car u gonna take then engine of..u need some parts...forgot which parts..but theres some!! so ull proly need to buy the car(u can keep the bonneville/buick for winter with the 2.2engine....its gonna be slow..but at least u won a winter car!!)
