Thought I would post this so any readers of this forum that are going to intall a theromstat on 3.0 Taurus , mine is a 97. Don't know how many years this would cover but I installed one few weeks ago and it leaked the whole time. I couldnt see it leaking on engine it was leaking down between engine and trans onto ground. I thought that paper gasket should have worked just fine. But found out the problem was I installed a fail safe thermostat into engine block instead of the housing cover, then I stuck on the gasket then bolted on the thermostat housing. Well here's where the problem was the thermostat has to set in the housing a certain way or it won't seat at all. So stick thermostat in housing cover and turn it tell it sits flat inside it. (copper shaft out). Then stick on gasket on. Then carefully mate the two and bolt on. This maybe in a manual but I couldnt find mine. So I dont know. Hope this helps someone to keep from having similar problem.
