Anyone have an 06' Impala SS

Hey,

I need to get a new car, and it has to be a car big enough to fit my 3 young sons who are still in car/booster seats and therefore relegated to the back seat.

I would still however like to get a car that's safe, fun, and gets decent mileage.

The Impala SS looks great, and I loved it when I test drove it today, but I'm a little worried about a few things.

How well do you think this car will hold its value? I'll probably keep it 4 to 5 years.

Is it fun to drive on a daily basis, and are there any "bugs" that people have found already?

Will the DOD (8 cyl. to 4 cyl. and back) be reliable ??

The other car I'm considering is the Accord EX V6 6-speed manual.

Thanks for the help!

John

Re: Anyone have an 06' Impala SS

well, not to knoock the impalas or american cars, but the rule of thumb when buying cars is....but the honda. I know a lot of people who have honda/acura. those cars last forever, the body will be gone, long before the motor ever takes a shit, and they keep there value better than any car ive ever seen, and escpecially the civics, get amazing gas milage. but depending on what size your looking for and what types of things your looking for, they might not have the options and features you may want. but resell value is high, dependability is great, but parts are more expensive when they do break since there imports, and working on them can be a pain in the ass sometimes.

John--I don't have the 2006. I brought a 2005, seems to be a good car overall. Don't like the radio or the seats though. The seat issue comes up on long trips for me. As far as buying the first year of a new engine, myself I would give it a year or 2 and see how they perform. In my area, the closest Honda dealer is about 40 miles away, many trips I am at minimum, 100 miles to the closest Honda repair shop. I opted to get a car that stands a chance of being repaired(in the unlikely? event it needs it) in the next town down the road. For my road trip car, I still go for the big 3. If I spent most of my time in large metro areas, I probably would go for a rice burner.

Honda fans no clue what ss means.

These guys telling you to buy a Honda have never driven a muscle car!

I have a 96 Impala SS @ 285 hp. and I've read about the 06 Impala's run 300 HP.

If you want power and have a need for speed I suggest you at least drive one of the 06 Impala SS's

If you want a car that performs and is more than a joy to drive it's a adrenalin rush, no doubt, I look forward to getting in my car and drive even when I have no particular place to go. I just love to drive my SS!

If you are a point a to point b and get me there cheep as you can with no thrills type of driver get a Honda like the old farts suggest.

To me my car is much more than point A to point B utility. It's a lifestyle.

2006 Impala SS

I recently purchased a 2006 Impala SS with a full option package. The price was right at $31,000. I traded in a 2003 Impala LS when I made the new purchase. I am an Impala fan and never had any trouble with the '03 but I only had 22,000 miles on it when I traded it in. I love the power of the V8 in the '06 SS over the V6 that was in the '03. Fuel mileage of the '06 sucks with the rising prices of Gas being what they are, Manufacturer recommends 93 octane or higher for best acceleration but it will still be an impressive ride on 87 octane. I get an average of 13 MPG in town so far but I'm still playing with it, (I've got less than 800 miles on it so far), and I'm sure it will pick up when I settle down a bit. Highway mileage is pretty good at 28 MPG+ (driving sanely). The 4/6/8 engine is a new platform so we'll have to wait and see how reliable it turns out to be. If it weren't for the dash display, I would never know that it was running on less than 8 cylinders, it's that smooth. There is more interior room in the '06 than I had in the '03. I can seat 5 pretty large adults with comfort, 2 front, 3 rear. There is less cargo space but that doesn't bother me since I have all I need. The factory Bose am/fm/xm stereo/cd player and 9 speakers give perfect sound quality. I'm not much into foriegn cars so I don't know how this compares to a Honda. Personally, I would prefer a Toyota over a Honda anyway if I had to go foriegn; it's all a matter of personal preference I suppose; I'm not here to bash anyones choice in automobiles, just my opinions ( right or wrong ).
