Replacement radio for 99 Caravan

I have a '99 Dodge Caravan with the stock AM/FM Cassette radio. I would like to replace it with something that plays CDs but I would like it to fit the same opening as the existing radio (big rectangle). Where might I find something like that? Did any of the 99's come with CD players? Should I check some junk yards?

Thanks,

Erick

If I were you, I would replace the radio with almost anything except a stock one. Stock radios suck! What you have is a din and a half opening for a radio. There are really simple to install an aftermarket one. They also make adaptor kits so a din radio will fit and look professional sitting in there. Most places like Best Buy, Circuit City offer installs. Sometimes they install at no charge, you just have to buy the harness and the adaptor kit.
Do you have the infinty sound system in your van? Some of them came with it. You would have 6 speakers if you do. 2 on the dash, 2 in the doors and 2 in the rear by the rear bench. Its a little bit tricky with it the infinity because you have to make sure that you ground the amp in the van or you will get no sound.

Re: Replacement radio for 99 Caravan

I am of the oposite opinion. I would only use a factory stereo. I have upgraded two of my GC's with E-Bay purchased factory stereos. The stereos themselves don't suck, it's the speakers. Change the speakers and it makes a world of difference. If you go with a factory stereo it will take you less than 5 minutes to do the remove/replace.

its just as simple to hook up an aftermarket radio if you use and adaptor harness. It takes about 5 minutes longer to wire it up. Sure, factory is ok if you looking to save time and money. BUT most of your aftermarket radios now offer Satelite radio, navagation, IPOD input, DVD-CD player...some of them even have a TV screen on them. It all depends on what your looking for. He is right about the speakers though, if money is the issue, def change the speakers before the radio.

OK both points are good ones, just remember, DON'T CUT THE WIRES! Use an adaptor harness so if you want to keep your stereo when you sell you vehicle, it will be easy to remove and put the factory one back in.

I have a 91 and a 95 caravan, both had Infinity sytems that gave up the ghost. Go to Crutchfields online, great values with great systems! Replaced both my systems with Panasonics-LOVE THEM!!! Replaced the front speakers on my 91 which I drive and I cant believe the difference in sound, FANTASTIC!
