2002 Camaro SS

Newest project is a 2002 Camaro SS. I've been throwing ideas around about everything for this car. First the color: These cars look best Red IMO, but blue and black dont look to bad at all either Right now the color is PLANNED to be red, but since I haven't shot a pit of color, that can change. Second is the engine: The kit gave me the all mighty LS1 for this badass Camaro. Well if I were to put in the LS1, that would be very origional dont you think? [/sarcasm] So I have a surprise waiting for the engine, and the LS1 will be used in a Pro Touring car I plan to build in the future. Third, well, hell, let me show some progress before I start with that again.

The body, hood, bumpers, etc with its first coat of primer. Next comes wet sanding and possibly another coat of primer

Here you can see the rear bumper, primed, and the completed LS1 that will go into a future project. All thats left on that LS1 is for the transmission to be painted aluminium and the headers to be put on.

This is the interior, can't really see much cuz my camera is 1MP and its all black =P Nothing better then an all black interior.

Casie and dash pad. This rustolium I've been using really lays a fantastic paint job. The gloss black takes about 2 days to become fully hard, but its worth it. The flat black drives in 20 minutes tho =P

Close up of the SS hood. Gotta love it.

Comments welcome please!

Ive got a few of those paint stands as well...LOL. Dont do it in red, do something different and original, especially since you are already using a different engine.

Re: 2002 Camaro SS

I was looking through my paint, and I noticed I have Chevy Orange Engine Paint, Hugger Orange, and Daytona Yellow. Any of these you think would look good? Im thinkin either Chevy Orange or Hugger

Re: 2002 Camaro SS

did you follow the directions to paint the engine? not trying to take over the build or anything but the block should be aluminum... other than that it is looking good. Im a HUGE fan of sunset orange metallic

Re: 2002 Camaro SS

Thanks for the reply, and next tip to the model store Ill look at the Sunset Orange Metallic.

On the block, I did follow directions, the directions said to paint the block stain (or some spelling varient) black, along with everything else lol. Ill double check tho, cuz it did seems like ALOT of black.

/edit: Question, on the dash, there are knobs for heater etc with raised knobs, and they have water decals for it, will the decals hit snoggly around the knobs? Do I have to trim the decals?

Re: 2002 Camaro SS

all of the research that revell did for the engine was lost when they made the blatant error in color coding for the engine. IMHO any true LS1 enthusiast knows that in stock form it comes with an aluminum block, which would not appear black. Its the little things like that that haunt me about revell models. but...to each their own. if you didn't want to repaint it, just say it is an IRON 6.0 block out of an HD truck painted black lol

Re: 2002 Camaro SS

That's a uh...pretty shiny interior. The dash is flat, otherwise you couldn't drive when the sun is up. Seats should be satin or flat if they're leather, possibly in Tamiya German Gray (as black leather seats are always on the gray side) or Testor's Aircraft interior black.

BTW, Krylon Gloss black dries much faster than whatever you're using.
You won't find Sunset Orange in a modelling store, you'll have to order it from a paint shop, a dealership, or find a nail polish that's a close match.
The engine and heads are supposed to be aluminum. I never go by Revell's paint instructions, it's best to find pictures of the car you're buliding to use for reference.

Re: 2002 Camaro SS

Well the LS1 wont be going into this Camaro, so when it goes into another project, it can be a painted LS1

Maybe instead of sunset orange, Chevy Engine orange? Thats a nice rich color.

Re: 2002 Camaro SS

Hm. Shoulda fixed the bumper mistake. I have no idea how Revell could screw something like that up..

I'm sure a few of the regulars know what I'm talking about here.

Re: 2002 Camaro SS

There really isn't much wiring to do on this engine. You can check out my Vette for some detail ideas-->

And here's the 35th I built:

I did a lot of research on the engine bay, so it should be fairly accurate. As you can see, there really isn't much to wire. The molded-in ignition wires are pretty well done. If you really want to do a full-detail wired engine, I'd recommend doing an older car (say, 69 Camaro), it'll be easy and well-documented.

Yeah, I know, I didn't fix the bumper. Maybe someday...
