Changed fuel injector o-ring. Now car won't start.
I have a 1996 Cavalier (2.2L, 4 cyl) with about 170k miles on it. Car was running fine until one of the fuel injectors started leaking. I bought an o-ring kit and changed the o-rings on all four injectors.
I put everything back together and tried starting the car. It would crank and the engine would turn over but it wouldn't start. After cranking it 4 or 5 times it stopped turning over all together. Now I just hear a click and the engine will try to turn over but won't. I thought the battery may be low so I tried jumping it with a friend's car but it still won't turn over. The only electral items I unplugged were the injector's leads and the map sensor. I don't know what went wrong. I've changed the o-ring on one injector before with no problem. I do remember I did not disconnect the battery if that's any help. Has anyone had this problem before? Let me know what you guys think is wrong and how to fix it. Thanks, David. - |

Re: Changed fuel injector o-ring. Now car won't start.
I bet one of the lower o-rings came off or did not stay on correctly allowing one of the cylinders to be full of fuel, preventing it from turning over. I would pull all four injectors and do it again, making sure all the lower o-rings don't fall off. You might want to pull your spark plugs wires off after you take out the injectors and crank it for a few seconds to push all the fuel out of that cylinder, you dont want a spark with an open port.
