What should I use for a new TRANNY?

I have a 1979 Trans Am with a Borg Warner 4 speed in it. Upon taking the clutch out of the car we found that the transmission is no good. I need to replace the existing transmission and was wondering if a 6 speed Corvette transmission would fit as well. I would prefer the 6 speed over the 4. I'm heading to a swap meet soon so let me know.

T56.

Although the problem is...the Corvette one sits much further back than the F-Body one. Not sure if the late model F-Body T56 will fit yours. I know the 'Vette one would be a lot of work to have it fit.
