2005 Fuel Filter

I completed my 2005 30,000 mile service and the service technician did not replace the fuel filter because they said the only filter is inside the gas tank. Is this true? My trailblazer had to have the fuel pump replaced at a little over 20K and since then when driving slow at start off there is what feels like surges, and watching the RPM it fluctuates to reflect the surges. The dealer cannot find anything wrong. Could it be the fuel filter? What else may cause the surges that I should check out?

The 02-04 TBs have the in-line fuel filter, but the 05+ ones have the filter in the pump inside the tank. As for the surging, I dont have a clue.

Thanks Eric. I already had the fuel pump replaced and I thought it was quite strange that a Chevy would not have a simple fuel filter replacement as they have on every Chevy I have ever owned.

kingbulldog, the surging your talking about, does it only happen after the vehicle has been sitting for a long period of time. I notice in the morning that it feels slow and slugish and I will hear the motor rev up and see the RPM's go up as well but it feels like the vehicle is lagging for a few and then it will kick in and drive normal. This is due to the motor being cold. I've paid attention to this and I'll watch the temp gage for the motor and this occurs when the gage is at it's lowest point but will only last for about 200 yards as the engine starts to warm up the vehicle responds normal. I asked my buddy about this who is a tech at a Chevy dealer and he told me that it was just due to the motor being cold.

It does happen mostly when starting off but the vehicle the vehicle doesn't sit for a long time. Though the motor may have cooled down and you are right on the mark with warm up of the engine. I will check it out.
