Dim Headlights

Hi, I have tried upgrading the headlamp bulbs from 65watt to 95watt, but the lights are still too dim. I think perhaps the reflectors are not that reflective.
Has anyone else had this problem and can suggest a solution?

Are the lenses cloudy?

Hi Boschman, thanks for the reply.

I replaced one of the lenses recently, and it now looks the same as the other one, not cloudy. The relectors look as good as they could be, but not very shiny.

They are good for up to 50mph, but at 60mph I can't see far enough ahead.

Re: Dim Headlights

Check between the bulb's ground & positive with a multimeter to see if you're getting over 12V with the car running. I'd suspect a bad ground.

Re: Dim Headlights

Thanks Boschmann,

I get 12.38 volts with the car idling. Sounds ok?

Re: Dim Headlights

You checked between the two headlight bulb wires? What was the battery voltage? 12.4V is a little low if the car was running. If you have an Ohmeter function check the ground wire to battery ground resistance.

Re: Dim Headlights

Thanks. Yes, I checked between the two headlamp wires. I did the test again today, having cleaned the battery contacts, which were a bit grimey. I got a voltage of 12.6V initially, which raised to 13.4V after a while. I checked the battery to ground and got 0 ohms, so that's ok. I am yet to discover if the brightness has improved as I am laid up at present with an arm injury. Thanks again for your assistance.
