95 3.8L vacuum hose issue

Ok all, I have a 95 windstar with a 3.8 in it.

On the top of the engine there is a thick black plastic vacuum rail that runs next to the dpfe sensor and the EGR valve. Off of that vacuum rail come three vacuum hoses, one going towards the passenger side of the compartment, the other two directly across from it in the same area and the same fitting route to the driver side toward the firewall no less. One of these two vacuum lines is red and I know where it goes, but the white/yellow one, I can't figure out where it goes.
Can anyone help me?
Right now it has a screw in it to close it off. I want to hook it up where it goes.
I don't think there was anything wrong with the engine, as the CE light isn't on. I just think whoever owned it before me didn't know how to put it back on. I'm worried that maybe it has something to do with the tranny shifting somehow but I doubt it.

By the way I recently replaced my speed sensor in this van, if anyone whats to know how to do it, I'll tell you, but it is an extreme pain to do, as it's in a very poorly placed area under the exhaust manifold on the firewall side where the tranny and engine meet, close to the spark plugs. It is a mother of a job.

I replaced my Speed sensor when I did my headgaskets. I wish I had done it before I put the back head on! It was tough even with the upper intake off and rear exhaust manafold off. The previous owner was having trouble with the speedometer jumping and really noisy. He included the lower half of the speedo cable (thinking it was the cause of the speedo jumping) when I got the van from him. I ended up replacing the speed sensor at the same time. The speedo head was bad and I got a replacement from the boneyard.

How did you replace the speed sensor? Develop another joint in your arm?!

If someone doesn't beat me to it I'll take a look under my hood and see where that hose goes.

First I jacked up the front end about 18 inches and put it on stands.

I disconnected the EGR valve to allow the exhaust tube to move freely when I disconnected the exhaust manifold. I also had to move the DPFE bracket out of the way to get the EGR off. I also had an extra EGR gasket since I needed to remove it. (I removed the EGR instead of disconnecting the exhaust pipe to the EGR valve because it wouldn't budge, and it is in an awkward busting knuckle position in the compartment.)

I went under and disconnected the O2 sensors, then both exhaust pipes coming off both of the manifolds along with the bolt and nut on the exhaust mount brackets. This allowed the exhaust pipe to be moved out of the way while I removed the exhaust manifold from the engine and moved it out of the way. The space is too small to take the manifold out, you just have to finnagle it into a position that allows you enough room to reach the sensor with your hand (that's why I disconnected it at the EGR, if you don't, the manifold won't move even if you disconnect it from the engine).

Then I took a two foot extension W/socket on a ratchet and stuck it through the driver side wheel well to the hold down bolt and removed the bolt. Once the hold down bolt was removed, the speed sensor pops right out easily. The gear should come out with it, as it is clipped onto the sensor. Once you have it out, it is just a matter of disconnecting the lower cable from the upper.

Once you have it completely out, if you need to change the gear on the end, make ABSOLUTELY sure you count the teeth on it and take the gear with you to the parts dealer to make sure you get one with the same color tip. If you don't, your speed sensor might not work properly and/or give the wrong speed. I had this happen once on a Chevy Lumina, cost me $100.00+ on a speeding ticket.

Installing the new sensor is simply the reverse of removal, and it does pop in easily.

One other thing, make sure you have extremely good lighting and a good creeper with a nice pillow on it, or you'll be straining your neck and eyes to see.
