Clicking and Clacking under Hood

Just wondering what you guys opinions on this would be. I have the 99 GASE with a new engine (appx 2000 miles). Recently, it has been making a noise under the hood. A click and clack, or a scratchy sound. It's really hard to describe.

I've found when the front of the car is downhill, the sound goes away. When the car is on level ground or pointing uphill, you hear the sound. I have also found that when I put the car in neutral, it goes away on both an uphill slope and level ground. I would assume a tranny problem w/ this. What do you guys think.

btw my friend said the catalytic converter, but i dont see how that could be the case.

Re: Clicking and Clacking under Hood

the niose you described sounds like about every GA I hav owned. They are noisy rattle boxes. I just turn up my tunes and the cars just fine(outa sight outa mind).

But the scratchy sound, is it more of a swishy sound? THe trany may be low on fluid causeing the swishy sound. Just a thought.

yeah when i turn up the music i dont hear it at all, and not its not really a swishy sound. I did think about seeing if it had enough transmission fluid, but i couldn't find the place to check it.

Re: Clicking and Clacking under Hood

the ever illucid and mysterious dipstick. Yes it has none that can be checked by the average joe.It needs to be up in the air on a lift to check it. But if you go to most quick oil change places they'll usually check it for ya for free, or for a quart if needed. It is a screwy GM thing, dont give them a dip stick so we dont over fill them. DUHH. Some people just pour some in and hav no idea what the level is and thats no good!

The sounds you hear are probley the injectors pulsing("click and clack, or a scratchy sound"). I was just messing with you aboot the turning up the radio thing, but it does work. if it's not broke, dont fix it.
