engine knocking
I have an 86 oldsmobile ciera 2.4 with 130k ; and all of a sudden my engine has started knocking/running very rough. I was using a little oil, but now smokes alot out the back. I was wondering if someone could give me a little help in what direction I need to following in fixing this problem. I thought it could be a rod or timing chain, but wasnt sure. Thanks.

Re: engine knocking
its probably not the timing chain...if it was the idle would be really out of wack...it might be a bent push rod...or maybe even check the lifters.

Re: engine knocking
show me an oldsmobile that doesn't sound like a washing machine wih marbles in it and I'll show you the same one of a kind.... however, how "thick" is this smoke? I would question even the fuel being questionable with all that is going on with gasoline these days
