Where's my keyless receiver?
I just bought a 2001 Grand Am that came with no keyless remote. According to my VIN# it is equipped I just need the remote but the problem is, is I could have one of two different types of reciever which would determine what remote I need. I've been told that one type is mounted in the back of the car somewhere and that the other is under the dash. Anyone know where exactly I should look? Will I have to tear the car apart to get to it?

I'm not certain where exactly the RF reciever is, but hav you looked in the fuse panels on the sides of the dash? THe relays are in there and i thought they had the reciever #. Surly someone in here knows for sure and will kindly help you. XI

your receiver should be in the back shelf between the rear seat and the bottom of the rear window between the rear speakers. If a Grand Am is like a Grand Prix, you have to remove the back seat to get the rear shelf cover out to gain access to the receiver. Give me the last 8 digits of your vin and the GM computer might narrow it down.

The dealer asked for the digits also and confirmed that I am equipped, but still couldn't tell me which receiver/location. By your description it sounds like I definitely can't see it from inside the trunk then?

mine is in the trunk on the drivers side near the hinge.
