289 - 351 Swap

Hi there,

I'm driving a '66 coupe with a 289 V8 and C4 tranny with power steering, no A/C
I was wondering what parts I need in order to swap my 289V8 with a 351W.

I figured out that i have to replace my distributor and may have to use swapheaders. Any other parts?

Starter? Intake? C4?

Thanks and greetings from Belgium

Re: 289 - 351 Swap

Intake is different due to the deck height (wider intake required).

How do your accessories mount on the front of the motor? You may have to make some changes there but if the stuff is bolted to the front of the heads you'll be OK>

Re: 289 - 351 Swap

You WILL have to use swap headers. '65-'66 cars are a PITA to sqeeze and 351w in and twice as bad with a 351c. I would suggest a 302/347 for ease of even changing park plugs. Now, if you get a Mustang II independant front suspension then a 351 is no prob because you have no more shock towers. Thats the best thing to do.
