Question Park Ave dies while riding down the road

Hello,
I have a 94Park Ave, 6 cyl, 3600 that has intermittly been dying while just driving down the road. Several times have had it to a shop and have thought the problem cleared up. We replaced the main computer, the cam sensor on the flywheel, the coiless distributor, and had the steering torn down, checked the fuel system and it had good pressure. There is still electric available to open open windows, run lights and the such, turns over fine, just wont start. When it dies if we leave it over night it starts okay the next day. then may run fine for a couple weeks. HELP!!! This is driving us nuts!

Have you replaced your crank shaft position sensor?

Question Re: Park Ave dies while riding down the road

The basics here, when it dies do you have spark, and or fuel pressure and injector pulse? How does it restart?

Yes to all. My mechanics are baffled? Now they are thinking of replacing the alternator and looking for a short on the wiring of same. Starts like a champ after it sits several hours.

Re: Park Ave dies while riding down the road

Do you know how to pull the codes off a Park Ave without the computer. On my caddy I just had to push a sequence of buttons and then count the blinks or jot numbers (memory not too good). Is it similiar? I know that they hooked it up, but just thinking something may show now.

Exclamation Re: Park Ave dies while riding down the road

Something is wrong here, either you have spark and it is weak or the injectors don't pulse, were they checked with a noid lite, was a gage actually put on the fuel rail, can't have all three and not run, assuming the engine didn't let go, which is not your case. Weak spark can sometimes fool people, looks good testing but will not fire plugs under pressure and fuel mix. When it dies does it show cranking rpms on a scanner, if not this could be an ecm problem or the icm, assuming a good cps.

JayR please post your results with this problem. Sounds exactly what I've been going through. I'm about to dig in and replace the crank sensor. My PA will start after a few minutes or a few hours like there was nothing ever wrong.

Angry My 88 needs some help also with this....

When my 88 PA gets to normal operating tempature, it cuts out and dies. When I try to start it, it sounds like it's flooded and won't start. But if I wait till it cools down a bit, I can drive it a bit further. Until it gets to normal operating tempature.

I don't want to start replacing things hoping for the best. A guy at AutoZone gave me this little thin key thing and told me to stick it in my computer or something next to my computer and layed me out on counting the blinks.

Where is this damn computer and were do I stick this key? (I know your thinking @**, and thank you for not typing it out).

I emailed Jay hoping he could tell me how his got fixed, but wondered if anybody here had any other input. Thank you. Daniel
