Transmissions

Hey all.

Was wondering, my buddies tranny is starting to sound... odd to say the least, it is whinnig and what not, and really has me nervous.

Also

Was wondering, as a rex owner with the 5 speed. Does mazda make a 6speed that will bolt up to a 13b?

Re: Transmissions

There is no simple bolt up 6-speed for the 13BT.
I do belave there was at one time a comp tranny (dog box) that was 6- speed for the 13BT, but its VERY expensive.

As for the winning, ummm, has the fluid been checked/changed ever?

Re: Transmissions

yeah he's got a leak in the damn thing, I think it's the rear seal that is gone.

Right under the shifter. there's a little metal plate, is there a gasket that sits under there? As there is signs of leak around there too.

Hmm, no 6speed. Is there an Aftermarket one that would work? I don't really want just a 5 speed :P But if that's what I got to stay with then that's that. Short Shift Kit and some form of clutch. Any suggestions on a good After Market clutch, one that won't be a pain in every day driving?

For the clutch i woudl just do a serach as there are ALOT of different ones availabel.

Im thinking of getting a custom Tilton unit to replace the HKS multi plate i have now. :P Just for a change i guess.

Short shifters are sometimes hard to find. If you can get a "C's" short shifter. There well built but $$$.

Go to Mazda, ask for a shifter bushing kit, and make sure they give you both little baggies, not just one.

Re: Transmissions

So it's the shifter bushing that is gone then? Under that little plate?

Replaced the rear seal and filled her up today, she no longer whines, blew the exhaust right off it too though. So it's pretty much just running headers, Loud and lacks power, Wednesday the new Exhaust comes in and everyone will be happy.

Re: Transmissions

The bell housing fits but there is work needed on the input shaft driveshaft, ect ect.
Like i said, there is no simple bolt up 6 speed tranny.

There were/are dogbox's around for the car, but they are VERY expensive, $6000+ USD

Re: Transmissions

straight cut gears, all custom gear ratios, clutchless shifting, bang up and down to change gears, no more pattern.
Good luck finding one. I have 3 but wont sell any of them :P

Re: Transmissions

What do we think it would cost to build a Non DogBox? Custom made?

Re: Transmissions

There is no point to just adding a gear. It make no difference. Almost all the current 6 speed trannys are 5 speeds with 6th being an OD (meaning you have a higher speed in 5th than 6th)

Bottom line is unless you have ALOT of money your car will remain a 5 speed.
