E38 starter hangs in

I have a 735iL with comfort start. Intermittently the starter stays engaged after the engine has started. I then turn the ignition off, the engine and starter stops. I can then start the engine as normal on the second try. Can any one help????

i have a 2000 e38 i left my lights on killed battery and my car done the same thing turns out if batterys not fully charged it will cause starter to seem like its engaged. i put a new battery in my car it started with no problem.
