2001 Civic headlight install

I am going to be helping a friend install some aftermarket headlights on his '01 civic LX tommorrow, I think that I have most of the installation process figured out, but I have some questions that I need resolved:
1: I will need to unbolt the bumper and bend it out on both sides to slide the headlight into position, right?
2: (most important) His car has three wires coming out of the headlights that don't have connectors right at the lights, if I remember right 2 are red, and 1 is white, but on the new headlights there are 4 loose wires, so what do I do here, how do I( hook these up and make sure it works on the first try?

Also, any tips that you could give me would be most appreciated.

Finally, please don't make fun of me for being a ricer (sorry if this offends ayone), I'm not...but admittedly my friend is.

Thanks a bunch

Re: 2001 Civic headlight install

It would be easier to just unclip he whole bumper rather then bending it down and maybe damaging it.
I dont remember any wires being attached to my headlights when I took them out? Theres just the 2 lights high and low. Are these projector headlights? Let me know which ones and I'll post up a DIY for them.

Yeah, I think they are projectors. They're a no name brand off eBay, I'll see if I can find a link to the kind they are.
Question on removing the whole bumper, where are all of the mounting points?

This is what they (95% sure):

Thanks

Re: 2001 Civic headlight install

To help you out in this I will take step by step:

1. You need to remove the bumper and the grill. Bending it, you just will damege it and the paint.
2. To remove the grill you have to take out the plastic "clips" that hold it in place. Some of them have to removed with a philip screw driver, and to the other you can use a standard screw driver. Be sure to no force any of them because you can break them.
3. On the corners, where the bumper are attached to the fender, there are one bolt on each side.
4. Next you need to remove all the clips that hold the engine splash guard, those are under the bumper. Don't remove the rubber protector.
5. Then you can remove the bumper.
6. Unbolt all the bolts of the headlights. Don't bend the bumper filler. First unbolts the bolts that are on the top (maybe 2 bults over the radiator support). Remove the bolt that are on the side. Then remove the bumper filler from the radiator support.
7. When you remove the headlight, unbolt the headlight off the bumper filler.
8. The 4 wires on the projector headlight should be two for low and two for high beam.
9. From the side of the wire harness the OEM socket have three wires, one of them is ground, one for high and the other for low beam.
10. To connect the new heradlights connect the negative of the both (low and high beam) to the ground wire of the vehicle's harness. Connect the low beam to the low beam wire; you should use a tester to identify what of them is the low and high beam.
11. For the turn signal and the positioning light you must use the OEM socket and bulb, instead the lights come with other.

Thanks a lot for the info, I was able to get the headlights installed, but in the time frame I had I was not able to get the angel eyes hooked up. And with the detailed instructions you've given that should be a breeze.

Thanks again

Re: 2001 Civic headlight install

You can connect the angel eyes to the position light; it will allow you to turn on the angel eyes with the parking lights.

When isntall the angel eyes:
DON'T CUT THE ANGEL EYES WIRES.

The angel eyes are a different type of light, and you should not cut the wires nomatter if them are too long.

Again step by step:
If you already install the headlights and not the angel eyes wires you can connect them through the fender.

1. For the left side, turn the steering wheel to the right or take out the wheel (if you have big wheels).
2. Remove the front of the "fender inner liner" by taking out some plastic clips.
3. Be sure your lights are off. Disconnect the position light (The lower small light on the corner of the headlight with two wires).
4. Untape it. DO NOT CUT ANY WIRE. Remove the plastic cover of the wire (the insulation) but without cutting the wires.
5. Connect the negative and positive of the angel eyes to the wires, respectively.
6. Be sure that you insulate it properly with electrical tape.

"I did it with my own 01 civic LX."
