Re: question concerning bore and stroke

you sure you don't mean 383? a 350 bored .030 over with a 3.75 stroke comes out to 383.

Re: question concerning bore and stroke

A stock 350 is 4.00 bore and 3.48 stroke.

4.030 x 3.48 = 355

Your '363' with 4.030 pistons would have to have a 3.56 stroke.

The formula for finding CID is bore squared times stroke, times 0.7854 times number of cylinders.

Re: question concerning bore and stroke

I would probably say it's a 383 if it really is. A 3.56 stroke crank would be a custom piece and for what?

I've heard of a 4.125" bore block and 3.33 stroke - 358 cubes and lots of wind up power! This is what NASCAR engines spec to. I've heard of 4.0 x 3.75 (377) and 4.03 x 3.75 (383) but never 363 4.03 x 3.56!

It's hard to determine what the actual stroke is without tearing down the engine, unless you can CC out the cylinder (and this also requires knowledge of the combustion chamber sizes).

If you've got the heads off (which you had at one point if you saw the pistons were .030 over), then with the #1 cylinder at BDC you can measure the distance between piston crown and deck, then again at TDC, the difference between the two is your stroke.
