Question '97 Grand Caravan Engine Light

I'm having some issues with the Check Engine Light on my '97 Dodge Grand Caravan. It has the 3.0 Liter engine.

The light came on a while back, and when I checked it, it showed that there was a mechanical fault with the leak detection pump switch (I think the code was 1495).

I pulled the pump out (since the switch is molded into it; it's one piece) and brought it to the parts store. They told me they couldn't order it.

I went home and reinstalled the pump. I did drive the van off and back on a set of car ramps in the mean time (the apartments I live at do not allow cars to be up on ramps for extended periods of time), with the pump removed.

I then purchased a new pump from the dealer a few days later. I still have the new part in the box.

Last night, my wife was driving the van, and the light went out. It's been out since.

What does it mean when the light goes out like that? Because I'm not sure what the problem really is, I was wondering if my taking it out and putting it back in might have knock something loose, or back into place.

Any ideas?

Re: '97 Grand Caravan Engine Lighe

When the OBDII computer detects a problem it will post a light with an associated code. Since it scans each driving cycle if the code repeats itself then the light will stay on. If the code does not repeat it will go out and stay off until it detects a problem once again. If the light went off then the problem may be corrected and unless the computer detects the problem again at which time the light will come on again. I hope this explains what has happened.
